More Mara Shawls…

November 28, 2012

Yep…here I go…I really ought to count out loud how many I have made so far…just to keep track of where they live now…hahahaaaaa

1. Madelinetosh turquoise colour (heavier weight than suggested) – original intention was for myself…but mom-in-law was visiting as I was knitting it up…the manner in which she caressed it compelled me to give the finished shawl to her.

2. Madelinetosh green sport weight – meant to knit it for my little girl…I ended up using it the most.

3. Madelinetosh pink fingerling weight – when I found out that my sweet cousin was diagnosed with breast cancer…I picked the pink to knit up some hugs and love for her…

4. Madelinetosh (Stovepipe – sport weight) – my little sister helped me so much while she was visiting (on vacation)…I wanted to knit a nice little something to wrap her up in my love…she bought the yarn and my gift was the knitting 🙂  – will post soon.

5. Cascade 220 Superwash Quatro (Fuji) – I’ve had this yarn forEVER….ordered it to knit up matching sweaters for my mommy and daughter…2 short sleeve sweaters later…I still have a ton of it left….so after visiting my folks in the summer and my mommy used my green shawl a few times in the super air conditioned places…she asked if I can make her one 🙂 Almost finished.

6 & 7. Koigu KPPPM (P811X & another colour that I cannot remember) – we were at the lovely Imagiknit yarn store and my baby girl handed me a skein of each…”Can you make me something, Mama?”…how I can refuse…they are not quite there…but I’m working on them slowly…

Wow…I adore this pattern…so snuggly…will be knitting more up 🙂

Volunteer mommy moment

November 27, 2012

Being a mommy has tons of perks…especially if one enjoys arts & crafts…

Our Art/Music Director is an amazing woman whose creativity knows no bounds.  So when our daughter is old enough to be in the annual Winter Program, I signed myself up (along with other lovely mommies) to help out with the costumes.

This is the brown bag that I am in charge of today…for those who are connected to Instagram, I’ve posted twice about the mouth/tongue moments…(Baaballaa is my Instagram screen name – well, same name for my Pinterest…)

Thanks to an amazing grandma who is a professional seamstress….we’ve got these costumes done in a flash!  I ended up prepping the mouth/tongues in pink/hot pink felt, reworking the patterns and sending them off to this lovely grandma.

Viola!  Just need to hand stitch the mouth area for them and I can get them tailor fitted to our 16 kids…

My kinda Black Friday….

November 24, 2012

How fast can I knit?  Hahahaaaa…yes…that is what I was thinking ALL day “Black Friday”…

My right index finger joint was rather unhappy after I switched into my “motor hands” mode…

I’m so happy that I finished 2 pair of socks…one pair for my mom-in-law and the other for my sis’s mom-in-law…lovely lady that…will be hand delivered by my bro-in-law to her 🙂

Oh boy!  That reminds me that we still have not ordered the X’mas/New Year photo cards!  Gotta get to that today…

The problem with knitting gifts for people you love (who live with you)…is that you really CANNOT do a thing when they are awake and around you….urg…

My next project was to be the Morehouse “Gator purse/bag” for my girlie, but she’s always around me…so I’ve finished the socks…now I’m moving onto finishing the Mara Shawl for my lit’l sis…then my mommy’s Mara Shawl….all these shawls got a great start and the moment they grew too big to be carried around, they have been in hibernation mode…so this IS the best time to bring them out.

Happy knitting 🙂

Oy vey…can’t be posting ANY photos here…

I made the fatal mistake of starting a Pinterest board named “X’mas gifts for sis?”…yes, THAT was a mistake.  My little sis goes to check on something (yes, I asked her to check on something…DUH..)…well…there goes the ideas…thank goodness I was NOT going to get her the item I pinned…still…

Sisters do not usually read my blog, so I am kinda safe here, still…I was STUPID enough to post my older sis’ bday present…HAH!  Fool that I am…

Life goes on…I’m NOT posting photos now…heheheeee…

I’ve got SO much work ahead of me…so little time…

This much I can share:

I have 2 knitting projects that I MUST finish before 12/24…2 sewing projects…

One sewing project needs to go out via mail…SIGH…yes…..I need to wash the fabric first…

I’m not worried about the sewing projects too much…I think… 🙂

Wish me luck!

My right index joint is NOT happy…it’s swollen and inflamed :-/ = less knitting time…

However, I’m really happy about the progress so far.  This is a man’s cowl neck pullover from the most amazing knitting book ever – Knit Real Shetland.  My second project from the book!  So satisfying to know that I CAN knit this…albeit a little slower than I expected.

Long story short, I emailed them to see if they offer this pattern in a ladies’ size chart.  Unfortunately, they do not…so I chose to knit up the smallest size on the chart, a little tighter gauge…for ME 🙂

I’m hoping I can finish this before this winter is over…

Weaving in…

October 23, 2012

“Keep calm and carry on” cup should read as “Keep calm while weaving in…”

Here’s the least favourite part of this project….but I’m learning to embrace it 🙂

Almost done!

October 23, 2012

I cannot believe how quickly this knitted up…I’m all done with the knitting portion of this tea cozy…yes…all while there was a lull at work…I swear!  I was working 🙂

Secret Fair Isle project

October 23, 2012

This “secret” project is a gift…but I really can’t stand it anymore…it’s so much fun knitting it and watching it “grow”…the colours are amazing…

My big sis never reads my blog, I think, well, I hope!  This is her first Fair Isle present from me…the last time I knitted and lined a black kitty tea cozy for her was ages ago…she proudly displays it in her kitchen!  This one almost needs a brown betty to go with it…I’ll have to search online for one quickly…

I LOVE this book from Jamieson and Smith – Knit Real Shetland.  I bought a boat load of stuff (well, to me…) with my Pay Pal account (gives me an idea…maybe I need to blog about THAT…)

This is my first project out of that shipment of goodies…then I’ll move onto the BMC cowl by Kate Davies…ok, I’m ahead of myself 🙂  Later!

OMG….J & S package!!

October 16, 2012

OH….after worrying about the package for days….I FINALLY got it via USPS mail….

Ok ok…I’m ahead of myself…picture this:
I’m typing away minding my own beeswax when I saw our regular lovely postman walking into our office…”Hey, Barb!  I’ve got your package…” I spotted this large grey plastic bag amongst all the USPS mail bins….OH….the joy!!
Ok, I think I AM crazy about yarn….especially J & S yarns…this package contains:

-BMC kit from Kate Davies

-yarn for one Osaka tea cozy

-yarn for the smallest size of Olly’s Allover

-colour swatch book of all J & S yarns
I’m dreadfully sorry for the ladies who had to read my desperate emails…hahahaaaa…

Life is good… 🙂

Oy vey….I ordered some really delicious yarn for a few projects from Jamieson & Smith on 9/24…

One of the main reasons for ordering is because I planned to knit the Osaka tea cozy for my sis’s birthday…which is coming up…

The last time I ordered from them I received the package straight away…so this time around I’m a little worried…not only have I not heard from them since the confirmation email on 9/24, I emailed last Thursday and have not heard back!  I’m concerned that the package is lost in the mail…but then again, I have not even received the email from J & S confirming that they have shipped it!

Dilemma, dilemma!!  I need to start on my sis’s project…what should I do??
