Veggie Mapo tofu & kiriboshi

We love Mapo tofu…all of us…so the challenge is to find the way to serve it on Veggie nights…

In my mind’s eye…corn and diced carrots should give the right texture…not crunchy…it’s the chew factor 🙂 It was great…my T-Rex was very happy to keep to our veggie week promise…

My sweet pea's plate of veggie yumminess...

This was her dish…she usually is really picky about her veggies…prefers cooked dark greens…actually…ONLY wants those…sigh…salads? “Mama, you KNOW I only love ceasar salads!” Tough customer…

Veggie weekdays…

Veggie weekdays...

Inspired by a friend (who is a co-worker but turned into an amazing friend)…we are trying out a new routine – Veggie weekdays…

Our 9 year old T-Rex is the tough customer…albeit being excited by the challenge, she can be really, I mean really, tough to please…

This was our first attempt to stick to this 4-5 days a week…every meal is vegetarian…ok ok, we serve eggs…not vegan…cheese? YES…yoghurt too.

It was delicious…homemade pesto served with roasted potatoes and a great salad. I made dressing with freshly squeezed lemon juice and the usual suspects…

Everyone was happy…including the hubby…

T’was time for the serger! I love how she said it…she did fine…it was so much fun to see my sweet pea using the serger…

Teaching my sweet pea to sew...

I’ve always watched my Mama sew…she had a beige coloured Singer perched on top of her desk…

Her desk was heavy and had a dark varnish…it sat on the top floor landing. We kids used to play under the desk…what memories…some days though, she cleared her desk…those were her calligraphy days…how my mama created…

Well, I suppose as a friend of mine recently commented, an apple does not fall far from the tree. My girlie asked me a while ago to teach her to sew! She’s been watching for years…I’m not sewing wiz…but as long as she can sew straight lines, we are good!

I am a proud Mama…

Something new for my sweet pea...

I can’t begin to tell you how upset I was when the $3.99/yard fabric from the discount fabric store melted…this is AFTER I top stitched ALL the bias tape…using the same fabric…

I sulked and howled for a bit…but decided the best way to get over it is to look through my stash and sew something fun for my sweet girl…

This is a photo I posted on Instagram (in case you are interested…baaballa is my username).

I’ve decided to finally use the precious Japanese bias tape my sis got me when she was in Japan. All the top needs tonight is a little hand stitching!

There is life and love after sewing disasters…hahahaaaa…
