Weaving in…

“Keep calm and carry on” cup should read as “Keep calm while weaving in…”

Here’s the least favourite part of this project….but I’m learning to embrace it 🙂

I cannot believe how quickly this knitted up…I’m all done with the knitting portion of this tea cozy…yes…all while there was a lull at work…I swear!  I was working 🙂

Secret Fair Isle project

October 23, 2012

This “secret” project is a gift…but I really can’t stand it anymore…it’s so much fun knitting it and watching it “grow”…the colours are amazing…

My big sis never reads my blog, I think, well, I hope!  This is her first Fair Isle present from me…the last time I knitted and lined a black kitty tea cozy for her was ages ago…she proudly displays it in her kitchen!  This one almost needs a brown betty to go with it…I’ll have to search online for one quickly…

I LOVE this book from Jamieson and Smith – Knit Real Shetland.  I bought a boat load of stuff (well, to me…) with my Pay Pal account (gives me an idea…maybe I need to blog about THAT…)

This is my first project out of that shipment of goodies…then I’ll move onto the BMC cowl by Kate Davies…ok, I’m ahead of myself 🙂  Later!

OMG….J & S package!!

October 16, 2012

OH….after worrying about the package for days….I FINALLY got it via USPS mail….

Ok ok…I’m ahead of myself…picture this:
I’m typing away minding my own beeswax when I saw our regular lovely postman walking into our office…”Hey, Barb!  I’ve got your package…” I spotted this large grey plastic bag amongst all the USPS mail bins….OH….the joy!!
Ok, I think I AM crazy about yarn….especially J & S yarns…this package contains:

-BMC kit from Kate Davies

-yarn for one Osaka tea cozy

-yarn for the smallest size of Olly’s Allover

-colour swatch book of all J & S yarns
I’m dreadfully sorry for the ladies who had to read my desperate emails…hahahaaaa…

Life is good… 🙂

Oy vey….I ordered some really delicious yarn for a few projects from Jamieson & Smith on 9/24…

One of the main reasons for ordering is because I planned to knit the Osaka tea cozy for my sis’s birthday…which is coming up…

The last time I ordered from them I received the package straight away…so this time around I’m a little worried…not only have I not heard from them since the confirmation email on 9/24, I emailed last Thursday and have not heard back!  I’m concerned that the package is lost in the mail…but then again, I have not even received the email from J & S confirming that they have shipped it!

Dilemma, dilemma!!  I need to start on my sis’s project…what should I do??

Taking ownership…

October 11, 2012

Someone I worked under once praised me for “taking ownership”…thank you, Ellen…

I have to thank my parents…who taught us via their actions…

Everyday, I try to pass a little of that along to my child and others…

The world will be a much happier and safe place if we all take ownership and act our part…

That, is my wish for the day…

I recall making this tiny little baby hat for my girlie when she was a teeny one with the lovely Koigu yarn…but so much time has lapsed that I’ve totally forgotten about them until one day my sweet bebe picked up 2 skeins of them at the yarn store (2 colourways)….”Mama, please knit a scarf for me…I love these colours!”  🙂  How can I say no?!

This past Sunday, I started on it…instead of a scarf, I’m knitting her a Mara shawl…which she loves…this is light and lovely…I love it when my bebe says, “Wow, Mama, you are fast!”  Hahahaaaa…I quickly knitted up the first skein and went out to get more yesterday…now on my second skein.  Can’t wait to see it on her 🙂

The Great Transformation by Karen Armstrong + starting a new Mara shawl (via Madelinetosh) = bliss…

One day, I would like to be able to meet and hear her speak in person…what an amazing teacher.  The other person I am learning loads from is Michael Sandel.  Just finished reading his new book, “What money can’t buy”…seriously, what is happening to our society?

It’s amazing…there are so many great teachers out there…learning something new everyday…

Life is good…

One of my all time favourite breakfast treat is oatmeal cooked in water + agave + dried cranberries.  Well, all it took was to turn this “favourtite” into a lunch item for 3 days (in the name of eating healthier)…

My search for a savory oatmeal recipe to try led me to Penny De los Santos’ blog…no, it was NOT the savory oatmeal recipe that demanded my attention….it was her amazing photographs…her stories…

Was it my second year in art college?  Or the first…I’ve tried a handful of classes in different departments…I was ready to declare my major in photography when something happened…an unexpected financial situation which required a withdrawal/leave of absence.  Luckily, I was already working at my college…switching to full-time was an option and as a full-time employee, I was entitled to take a class free of charge.  This takes me back in time…well, all I want to get to here is that I have ALWAYS loved photography…I won some sort of something in High School via Parsons School of Design in L.A….wait!  Where is that little golden key pin in the clear/blue plastic box?!  Yep, my black and while print was on display at their gallery and I got to see it there….

Long story short,  I love taking photos…where am I going with this?  Oy vey, I do not know…hahahaaaa…I lost my train of thought!  Photography (one of my gazillion hobbies) attempts to freeze time/emotion/situation in a fraction of a second…it’s amazing how some of us are capable of capturing that image…hats off to Penny…

ImageThis is one of the many projects I’m working on…my right index finger joints are really unhappy…but I must plod on!

The Mara Shawl via Madelinetosh website is free…a great knit!  This being my 3rd and I can see many more coming…what a great way to use up my yarn in stock.

My first was (mine) but a few years back when my mother-in-law was visiting, she showed such interest that I felt compelled to gift it to her before her visit ended…my second was meant for my little girl…well, we are “sharing” it (if you count mommy wearing it 98% of the time..hahahaaaa)…my third is for my younger sister who loves the green one I wear a lot (it’s 98% finished, working on the 2×2 rib)…WAIT!  This is my 4th!  This is for my mommy…the yarn she chose years ago and we couldn’t decide on a sweater…so here it is….

It’s been a long while since I last posted anything…what with our end of summer trip that was amazing and the beginning of the new school year.  I’m knitting of course…if my hands are unhappy, I’ll have a knitting project sitting on my lap while I read…”pretending” to be knitting 🙂
